Writing for Children
My career in writing began when I enrolled
in a creative writing course entitled Writing for Children and Teenagers at
the Institute of Children's Literature in the fall of 2002. I discovered that I
loved writing, especially for children, and decided to try my hand as a
freelance children's writer.
I've included some illustrated samples of my children's writing for your enjoyment.
Simply click on the links below to view them.
- Fiction – The Switcheroo ~ Julie wants her twin sister, Melanie, to play a game of switcheroo at school... Will Melanie
do it?
- Nonfiction – Do Bananas Fart? ~ Have you ever wondered what makes bananas turn spotted and brown?
- Poetry – Hot Cocoa, Anyone? ~ Nothing ends hours of winter fun like a cup of hot cocoa!
I've written several children's stories, plays, and articles. My recipe Yummy Soft Banana Cookies was published in the November 2006 issue of Highlights for Children magazine.
I've also written a picture book entitled Tommy and the Tooth Fairy,
which has not been published yet. My latest project is a novel for teenage girls entitled Last Chance to Dance.
Writing for Moms/Adults
Aside from my children's writing, I have three regular columns online:
I've had profiles and recipes published on www.justformom.com,
an article published in the Writer's Support section of the Institute of Children's Literature (www.institutechildrenslit.com), and personal essays published
on www.reallygreatinfo.com.
Technical Writing
Since March 2006, I have worked at Neotelis (formerly Goulet Telecom International) as Training Material Manager. I am responsible for producing and maintaining training outlines.
I also work with various instructors and assist in the research and development of training material (presentations and workshops) in different facets of Telecommunications, including Management, Marketing, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources and Regulatory Matters.
My responsibilities include ensuring that all training documents (outlines, presentations, and workshops) meet the Goulet Telecom standard, proofreading, editing, formatting, and coordinating translation from English to French whenever required. I also occasionally write short technical articles for the company newsletter, ConneXion.
